A training programme on “Divi Neguma” aimed at establishing one million Domestic Economic Units has been launched.
The main objective of this effort is to enhance the income avenues of the people under the concept of Economic Units for every household. The Economic Development Ministry is handling the programme. Three Senior Ministers will be monitoring the programme. A training programme on Divi Neguma was held at the Plant Genetic Resources Auditorium in Gannoruwa. It was chaired by Minister Basil Rajapaksa.
The Minister said that as they developed 14,000 Grama Niladhari Divisions in 14,000 villages under the Gama Neguma Programme, Divi Neguma is a new effort to improve the living standards of one million. He emphasized that their intention was to safeguard the economy of the country.
Arrangements were also made to distribute seeds among the farmers. A CD to educate the peasants on agricultural activities was also launched.
