The 136 Indian fishermen who violated the international maritime boundaries have been released. Naval Media Spokesman Commander Kosala Warnakulasuriya said that the 25 trawlers in which they had come have also been released.
Commander Warnakulasuriya said that the 136 fishermen who were taken into custody on the 15th and 16th of this month are due to be handed over to the Indian Coast Guard along with 25 fisheries trawlers.
The Sri Lanka Navy will escort the released Indian fishermen and their trawlers and hand over to the Indian Coast Guards at the Indian Maritime border North of Kankesanthurai. He said the Sri Lanka Navy would discharge its responsibility to the utmost in this respect.
