IGP Mahinda Balasuriya has said that security is ensured during the Cricket World Cup matches. He urged the entire nation to join in safeguarding the dignity and honour of the motherland throughout the tournament.
Addressing the media today, the Police Chief said that banners, placards, musical instruments, glass bottles, fire crackers, laser lights, sharp instruments, knives, professional cameras and alcohol are prohibited at the World Cup venues. These measures have been taken as security precautions. Those who violate there directive will be arrested and prosecuted. Only the flags of the respective countries playing on the particular day will be allowed into the venue. He also said a special traffic plan will be enforced during the tournament. However, he said the Police will close roads leading to the World Cup playing venues from time to time.
