General Receives Highest Percentage Of Preferential Votes

Apr 10, 2010 10:59:36 AM - thecolombotimes.com

The Leader of Democratic National Alliance (DNA) and candidate of that alliance for Colombo District has obtained the highest percentage of preferential votes at the concluded general election 2010. The number of votes the DNA received from Colombo District was 110,683 and Gen. Fonseka received 98,456 votes out of it. Accordingly, Gen. Fonseka’s percentage of preferential votes is 88.95%.

However, the government claims that President’s son Namal Rajapakse has received the highest percentage of preferential votes in the island. The total number of votes the UPFA polled in Hambantota District is 174,808 and Namal Rajapakse has received 147,566 votes out of this total. Accordingly, Namal’s percentage of preferential votes is 84.41%.

Hence, Gen. Sarath Fonseka, the Leader of the DNA has obtained the highest percentage of preferential votes in the island and not Namal Rajapakse as claimed by the government.
