A ten year old girl from Nawadankulama Kanishta Vidyalaya in Mundalama has been warded at Ward No.9 of the Chilaw Base Hospital on February 10, after she was allegedly raped by the husband of her ‘Sinhala’ subject teacher.
The girl has been living with her grandmother and uncle as her mother is working as a housemaid in Kuwait.
“Last Thursday, around 1 p.m. my niece had been in the school premises as the teacher who was to take the subject during that period had not turned up. When she had been standing near the teachers’ quarters, the accused had lured her near the doorway by showing her a toy and then pulled her inside,” said an uncle of the victim, when contacted by The Sunday Leader.
“The girl who is warded at the Chilaw Base hospital has told her grandmother that the accused had pulled her inside and thrown her onto a bed and had begun to attack her and had threatened her when she had screamed. “When The Sunday Leader contacted the child in hospital, one week after, on Friday, she whispered in a small voice that the accused had threatened her and told her that she had only a ‘small job’ to do.
After some traumatic time, he had allegedly given her a white cloth officially issued by the government to be distributed among students to sew uniforms and asked her not to relate the incident to anyone.
The accused, a 35 year army deserter is the father of a two year old. The family of the victim has filed a complaint with the Mundalama Police.
