The President called upon the people to be dedicated in preserving values in the country following its release from terrorism.
He said that any challenge can be overcome through determination and dedication. The President said that the country is unified under one flag without permitting terrorism to raise its head. He said that the goal of making the country the wonder of Asia is giving strength for every action. He noted that all attempts would be futile if a moral society devoid of narcotics cannot be created. He said that it would not be difficult to create a moral society if all people are determined to achieve the goal.
The President expressed this view at a function to enshrine the relics and other sacred objects in the Buddha statue of the Asu Maha Shrawaka Vihara in Ratganga. The statue is a replica of the Buddha statue in Buddha Gaya. The President pointed out the need to create a disciplined generation of youth who can reap the benefits of the victories achieved by the country. The President said that the government is giving special consideration for spiritual development of the youth. The Anunayake of the Lanka Amarapura Nikaya Ven. Kotugoda Dhammawasa Thera delivered an anusasana.
The President paid homage to the historic places depicted at the Ratganga Rajamaha Vihara. Members of the Maha Sangha led by chief incumbent of the Vihara Ven. Gilimale Chandaloka Thera, Ministers W.D.J. Seneviratne, Pavithra Wanniarachchi, Wasudeva Nanayakkara, Governor of the Sabaragamuva province W.J.M. Lokubandara, Chief Minister Mahipala Herath and a number of peoples’ representatives participated in the occasion.
