The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has said that while electricity consumption is expected to see an increase, special precautions have been taken in the event of power failures during the World Cup Cricket 2011 matches.
CEB Chairman Vidya Amarapala has told the media that engineers and senior officers at the Board will be on call during the World Cup period.
The CEB expects the peak electricity consumption during the World Cup match period to be around 2,000 megawatts.
The country’s energy consumption usually reaches its peak of 1,800 megawatts from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm every night. However, the peak times are expected to increase during the World Cup matches.
