A "Good Samaritan" who saw a hit-and-run and followed the suspect vehicle to a Rosewood home is credited with the quick arrest of a Columbia woman whose vehicle is said to have struck and severely injured a man on Assembly Street early Sunday.
If it had not of been for him, we would have probably had quite a lengthy investigation, said Columbia police deputy chief Ruben Santiago.
The police identified the suspect as Ashley Coleman, 23, of 1025 Elm Ave.
She is charged with felony DUI, hit-and-run with great bodily injury and leaving the scene of an accident, according to warrants in the case. She is being held at the Alvin Glenn Detention Center until a bond hearing Monday morning.
Police had no information on the victim. Citing the continuing investigation, police also declined to identify the tipster.
