The United National Party has withdrawn the writ application on the Maharagama Urban Council calling for the rejection of the Freedom Alliance nominations.
The petition calling for the turning down of Freedom Alliance nominations was filed by UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake. The withdrawal of the petition was intimated to the Appeals Court when it was taken up for hearing today. The Counsel who appeared on behalf of the UNP General Secretary told the Court that the petition would be withdrawn if the polls to the Maharagama Urban Council which had been postponed would be held as scheduled. The Counsel who appeared on behalf of the Elections Chief said they were ready to hold the polls as scheduled.
