Minister Bandula Gunawrdena has revealed that 2500 appointments will be given next month to overcome the dearth of teachers.
The Education Minister said they will be fulfilling the task of deploying nearly 2500 teachers to schools. The only way to accelerate this process is to secure the results soon and dispatch the teachers to schools where vacancies exist. He pointed out that their intention was to complete this process by the end of the next month.
The Minister was addressing journalists to intimate the policy decision taken by the Education Ministry. He referred to several matters including the ban on the sale of food in school canteens, harmful to the health. It was pointed out that at the news conference a programme planned to be mooted during the Sinhala and Tamil New Year auspicious time to plant five million trees. The Minister said in addition to the granting of quality school text books other welfare programmes are also in place for the benefit of the children. Ministry Secretary H.M. Gunasekara was among those present.
