An armored vehicle maker based in South Carolina is laying off about 100 workers.
Force Protection Inc. of Ladson says Monday that the majority of its cuts will be from workers in the Charleston area.
The company makes mine-resistant, ambush-protected vehicles. Force Protection also has developed accessories to make the vehicles better able to withstand explosions.
In October 2009, the company cut about 120 workers to save about $40 million a year.
Since then, Force Protection has won several million dollars worth of contracts to produce vehicle systems for U.S. and British armed services.
