Minister Susil Premajayantha has said that the Government will be extending its fullest support to the Elections Commissioner for the conduct of a free and fair poll. The Minister was expressing views after a meeting of General Secretaries of Political Parties with the Elections Chief.
The Minister said they had full trust in the judiciary. They also had confidence in the Elections Chief. In all past elections they gave full support to the Elections Secretariat to hold free and fair polls. At this poll too, they would be doing the same. The Elections Chief made some clarifications to the Party General Secretaries with regard to the 59 local bodies for which elections had been suspended due to petitions filed. The Elections Commissioner called on them to inform any problems related to the actions of the Police or if they had any other problems. Accordingly, the Minister said that Secretaries who had problems intimated them to the Police Chief.
