The government has decided to renovate 2000 tanks that were damaged in the recent floods at a cost of Rs. 4 billion.
The Economic Development Ministry has told the media that the renovation of tanks would be conducted at district level and is expected to be completed in a year.
A ministry official has told the media that authorities were currently identifying the extent of the damage caused to each tank and the measures to be taken.
The renovation project is to commence from the Ampara District and proceed to the Puttalam, Moneragala, Kurunegala, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and other Districts.
