South Carolina’s health care agency told legislative budget writers Tuesday that it plans to reduce its budget request by $200 million.
But hospitals warned the cuts could cost 2,600 S.C. health care workers their jobs.
The state Department of Health and Human Services says it will make the cuts by:
• Reducing what doctors and hospitals are paid to treat poor patients and the disabled
• Cutting administrative fees paid for patients in managed-care plans
