Police say a safe containing $8,000 meant to help veterans has been stolen from a Charleston woman's home.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Tuesday the safe was taken during a garage sale at the home of Robin Hardee on Feb. 11. Hardee says several hundred people came to her home and it appears someone walked inside and took the safe.
Police have no leads on a suspect.
The South Carolina Chapter of the Sons and Daughters of Pearl Harbor Survivors planned to use the money to help vets pay bills or to help them pay for vacations.
Hardee's father survived the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
