There has been a record increase in the number of vehicles imported to Sri Lanka. Solutions are being considered for the congestion caused by the ships that bring vehicles.
Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena has said that they have a responsibility to handover the vehicles to their owners in same condition in which they were brought. Therefore he is directly intervening to make arrangements in this connection. He requested those who face problems to contact him so that he can look into the problem and take suitable action.
The number of vehicles brought to Sri Lanka has increased with the reduction in the Import Duties on vehicles. Under the circumstances nearly five ships carrying vehicles are reported to be arriving in the Colombo Harbour. Nearly 2000 vehicles are brought in each ship. Congestion has been caused in the vehicle unloading area of the Colombo harbour due to this. Deputy Minister Rohitha Abeygunawardena visited the area to inspect the situation. He instructed the authorities to devise a special programme for the protection of the vehicles.
