The question of South Carolina Electric & Gas building a landfill in Colleton County is back before the county zoning board.
The Zoning Board of Appeals is expected to decide the issue in Walterboro on Thursday.
The utility wants a zoning exception to put a 1,000-acre coal ash landfill in a rural part of the county. Two environmental groups plan a news conference before the meeting to discuss their opposition.
Last month, more than 100 people were shut out of a public meeting on the issue. The doors to the county courthouse were closed after the meeting room filled and those left outside complained that they weren't heard.
