JVP politburo member and DNA parliamentarian Anura Kumara Dissanayake today (24) charged that the government has used emergency regulations suppress the people’s rights and to silence dissent.
Dissanayake speaking during the debate on the extension of emergency regulations in parliament has called on the government to relax the emergency regulations.
He has also spoke of the incidents of attacks on media personnel and institutions that have taken place after the war and has said that perpetrators had not been apprehended in any of these cases.
Dissanayake has also noted that several members of the gang who had attacked Sirasa TV last year are contesting the local government election in the Kelaniya area.
He has said that the authorities after failing to take any action against the attackers even after video clips of them attacking the institution were made public have been given nomination to contest the local government elections on March 17.
