There is no country in the world as beautiful as Sri Lanka

Feb 25, 2011 5:36:28 AM - itnnews.lk

A German couple who visits Sri Lanka continuously for the past 31 years say that they have been touring many countries but they have never seen a country as beautiful as Sri Lanka and that the beach here is the most beautiful beach in the world. The couple says that Srilankans are very friendly people and they love the genuine smile that is always on their faces.

The German couple, Ernest and Mariana usually spends their holiday in Sri Lanka, centering the Koggala Beach Hotel. During an interview with a local newspaper, Mariana said they first visited Sri Lanka in 1980 and from then on until now, they have come to Sri Lanka every year – sometimes even twice a year. She also said they even visited Sri Lanka during the time of war and that during that time, sometimes there would be just 10 – 15 tourists in the hotel but now, not only Koggala but all of Sri Lanka is full of foreign tourists. Mariana also finds the Koggala beach to be serene and beautiful and she says that one can walk down the beach on a stretch that runs 2 or 3 miles. The couple has been to Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa, Sigiriya, Kandy, Yala and have found those places to be amazing.

Mariana says once, during the time of war, they had gone to the Peradeniya botanical gardens. That day, they were the only people in that whole garden. Again, during the war they went to a hotel in Sigiriya once, and they had been the only foreign tourists in the hotel that night. But she quickly added that since they were so familiar with Sri Lanka they were not afraid at all.

Speaking of the Tsunami incident back 2004, Mariana said that after spending their holidays in Sri Lanka in November that year, they returned home, only to hear about the Tsunami incident and the catastrophic disaster and they were deeply saddened. Although they wanted to go back right away, there were no flights available to Sri Lanka. However, they later came to Sri Lanka in the first flight they could get and they helped those in need, in every way they could.

Mariana happily pointed out now that the war is over, they can go anywhere in Sri Lanka adding that they love to see the people of the North and the South live in peace and harmony. She also pointed out that they have been to Sri Lanka continuously for the past 31 years and have never faced any unpleasant incident and that they will continue to visit Sri Lanka in future as well.

Ending her chat with the newspaper, Mariana said that they wish that one day, when they die, they will be born again in this beautiful country – Sri Lanka.
