School children visit the Temple Trees to view President Rajapaksa’s vegetable cultivation, setting an example to the entire country.
The President has been able to successfully cultivate the premises of Temple Trees as well as the President’s House setting an example to the entire country at a time when it was gearing up to awaken through a massive cultivation drive.
The President said their plans are to launch Domestic Economic Units to grow vegetables and also produce milk to meet domestic consumption. He pointed out that the people had some capability. The effort of this initiative is to get them involved in this massive programme and utilise their leisure time in cultivation. The President referred to the beauty of the gardens grown with vegetables replacing flower plants. Vegetables are grown at Temple Trees and the President’s House instead of flowers. There is some beauty in these cultivations. The entire garden is beautiful. He said that on one side there is a sapling of the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi surrounded by vegetables instead of flowers.
School children who arrived at Temple Trees from all directions of the country to have a glimpse of Temple Trees viewed the cultivations along with the President with the intention of embarking on a new journey.
The President said about 2000 children visit these locations weekly. They have a chat with him and even pose for photographs.
