The National Building Research Bureau (NBRO) has said safe lands for the resettlement of families affected by landslides in the Central Province have been identified.
The NBRO has said it has tested and approved several blocks of land in the Central Province.
NBRO’s Landslide Studies Director R.M.S. Bandara has told the media that many of the displaced families could not be resettled in their original homes as those areas were prone to landslides.
According to Bandara, the NBRO had identified 16 suitable locations in the Badulla District where the displaced families could be resettled while three locations have been identified in the Nuwara Eliya District.
The NBRO is testing more lands in order to find more suitable lands for resettlement.
NBRO had declared 10 districts as vulnerable to land slides.
