Language imperative to build mutual relations – Media Minister

Minister Keheliya Rambukwella has said that Language knowledge is imperative to build mutual relations among communities.  In this respect, he emphasized that the media had to play a more responsible role.

The Media Minister said that studying Sinhala and Tamil through the media should be carried forward. He said various Governments ruled the country since gaining independence. No attention was directed to this matter which led to a major disaster and also stained mutual relations. This should be particularly identified. The Minister said he believed the media had a responsible role to play in this respect.

The Minister was speaking at a seminar organized at the BMICH in Colombo. It was part of a series of seminars organized by the Ministry of Media and Information to improve the knowledge of journalists.  In parallel, the seminar for Tamil media personnel was held today. Lectures on several fields important for the journalists were delivered. Media Secretary W.B. Ganegala was present.
