World cup fever has hit Colombo. The Kettarama International Cricket Stadium was a sea of heads, full to capacity with cricket loving fans. Massive crowds were witnessed in the environs of the Stadium from this afternoon.
All tickets for the match were sold a few days before today’s match. Special programmes were in place at the Stadium and within the Colombo City on behalf of the fans arriving at the Stadium to view the match.
The Kettarama Stadium was refurbished to stage World Cup matches. Accordingly its capacity was increased to 30 thousand. By this afternoon, the entire stadium was full to capacity. A notable feature was the presence of many foreigners in addition to Sri Lankan fans who had converged in Colombo from various parts of the country.
