The National Building Research Bureau has identified safe lands for the resettlement of families affected by landslides in the Central Province.
The Bureau said it has tested and approved several blocks of land in the Central Province. The Landslide Studies Director of the Bureau R.M.S. Bandara has told the media that many of the displaced families could not be resettled in their original homes as those areas were prone to landslides. According to him, the National Research Bureau had identified 16 suitable locations in the Badulla District where the displaced families could be resettled while three locations have been identified in the Nuwara Eliya District. He said they were testing more lands to find more suitable places for resettlement. It has declared 10 Districts as vulnerable to landslides.
