The ‘Divi Neguma’ programme for the cultivation of one million home gardens is being successfully carried out.
It has been launched to increase the nutrition level of the families and the household incomes. The programme is aiming to produce the vegetables and fruits required by the households in home gardens. Production activities at the household level to earn an additional income are also being encouraged. The government patronage is being provided for agriculture, animal husbandry and promotion of crop cultivation for strengthening the people. The Programme is being carried out under the supervision of the Economic Development Ministry. The Grama Niladaris, Samurdhi Officials and Agriculture research and production assistants as well as the family health workers are also participating in the programme. The government is contributing agriculture seeds, plants and the technological assistance.
