Seed paddy and fertilizer will be provided free for the farmers in Batticaloa who were affected by the floods.
Arrangements are also underway to develop 117 irrigation projects. Minister Basil Rajapaksa has instructed the officials to take all required measures to uplift normal life.
A special discussion was held under the patronage of Minister Basil Rajapaksa to discuss about the future action to be taken to uplift the normal life in Batticaloa. Nearly 300 thousand people were affected due to floods in the district following incessant rains experienced in the district during the last few months. The government has launched a number of programmes to uplift the peoples’ lives. This includes providing protection, food, sanitation, and other necessities as well as housing and agricultural assistance. The damage caused, the expected results and the aid programme of the government were discussed at the meeting which was convened to review the progress of the programme launched to uplift housing, agriculture, fisheries and animal husbandry projects as well as renovation of schools, temples and houses. Minister Kumara Welgama, Deputy Ministers M.L.A.M. Hisbulla, Vinayagamurthy Muralidharan, Basheer Segu Dawood, Eastern province governor Mohan Wijewickrama and Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan were amongst those who participated in the occasion.
