The government says that several Sri Lankans have returned to the country from Libya while 37 more are to arrive in the country in the next few days.

Chairman of the Foreign Employment Bureau, Kingsley Ranawaka has told the media that several Sri Lankans have arrived in the country through Jordan from Libya.
According to Ranawaka, there are around 800 Sri Lankans in Libya and immediate steps are being taken to evacuate them to the country.

Meanwhile, Foreign Employment, Promotion and Welfare Minister Dilan Perera has told the media that 37 Sri Lankans have been evacuated to Greece from Libya and that they would arrive in the country in the next few days.

Perera has said that there were a large number of Sri Lankans at the Sri Lankan embassy in Tripoli and the External Affairs Ministry was working to arrange a charter flight to get them back to the country.

The Sri Lankan government has also sought the assistance of other countries like India to evacuate Sri Lankans in Libya.

According to Perera, the External Affairs Ministry is in contact with the Indian Foreign Ministry to explore the possibility of evacuating Sri Lankans by their ships.
