Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said that the Government is taking all measures to provide the highest benefits of development to the general public.
The Minister said massive development initiatives were launched in the past under the patronage of the President. Seed paddy produced by the farmers has a good market. Facilities have been provided to transport fish to the market. He said that fertilizer, Samurdhi concession and flood relief are being provided. The Government also offers seed paddy, tractors and water pumps free of charge. Bus stands are being constructed. Water is supplied. Boats are being given to the fishermen and fisheries harbours constructed amidst the development programme. The Minister expressed this view at the inauguration of the new bus stand in Batticaloa. The Bus stand was constructed under the programme to develop common amenities in the North and East. The two storied building at the bus stand consists of a shopping complex, four rest rooms, an office complex and sanitation facilities. The Economic Development Ministry has spent eight million rupees in this connection. Minister Kumara Welgama, Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthi Muralitharan, Governor of the Eastern Province Mohan Wijewickerma, Chief Minister Sivanesathuri Chandrakantha and District Secretary of Batticaloa S. Arumainayagam were among those who participated in the occasion.
