The Indian media has said today (28) that MDMK leader Vaiko and CPI’s Tamil Nadu secretary D. Pandian and 400 party workers, have been taken into custody by Tamil Nadu police for trying to stage a protest in Chennai against Sri Lanka.
The protest has reportedly been organized over the alleged disrespect caused to the mortal remains of slain LTTE chief Prabakaran’s mother, Parvathy Pillai, in Sri Lanka.
The protesters have alleged that the Lankan army had “caused disrespect” to the remains of Parvathy, who died at a private hospital in Jaffna recently following illness.
The protesters have reportedly demanded closure of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission and tried to march towards it but they were not granted permission for the protest, the police have said.
Those taken into custody included Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P. Nedumaran.
