The New Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air Vice Marshal Harsha Abeywickrama formally assumed duties as the 13th Commander this morning.
Air Marshal Harsha Abeywickrema becomes the 13th Air Force Chief. He assumed office at the Air Force Headquarters amidst the blessings of the Maha Sangha. A special Guard of Honour was accorded to the New Air Force Chief. He served in many positions including Deputy Chief of Staff of the Air Force and Director of Logistics, before assuming duties in the new position. A past pupil of Royal College Colombo, he enlisted to the Sri Lanka Air Force as an Officer Cadet in 1980. Some of the notable achievements of his career were the formation of the first supersonic Fighter Squadron of the Air Force and the Air Wing of the Defence Services and Command and Staff College. Air Marshal Abeywickrama received the ‘Rana Wickrama Padakkama’ and the ‘Rana Sura Padakkama’ for acts of bravery during flying missions in the North-East conflict zones, and the ‘Utthama Seva Padakkama’ as recognition to devotion to duty, merit and exemplary conduct.
