Minister Basil Rajapaksa has said that the Government is taking optimum initiatives to improve facilities extended to the public in the Northern and Eastern Provinces with the conclusion of the war.
The Minister said that massive development had taken place in the Eastern Province, including the Batticaloa District in the past under the leadership of the President. Better prices have been assured to the farmers who cultivate paddy. Facilities are also being provided for the fishermen to transport their fish to the market. The Minister added that not only for cultivators and fishermen, facilities were also been extended for the commuters.
The Minister was speaking at the opening of the new Bus Stand in Batticaloa. The expenditure incurred on the work was 80 million rupees. It has 26 shops, four passenger rest rooms and an office complex. Minister Kumara Welgama, Deputy Minister Vinayagamurthy Muralitharan, Eastern Governor Mohan Wijewickrema and Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan were present on the occasion.
