The first group of Sri Lankans evacuated from Libya reaches the island.
The group comprising 41 members arrived early this morning. The Government has unveiled a special programme to get down the Sri Lankans in Libya. Their air passage has also been paid. A special office has also been opened to secure information on Sri Lankan migrant workers in Libya. The Foreign Employment Bureau said that it is operative round the clock. The Bureau emphasized that not a single Sri Lankan has been harmed. The support of embassies nearby is being obtained to get down the Sri Lankans. Accordingly the bureau said these embassies will be providing the financial assistance required. About 1200 Sri Lankans are reported to be serving in Libya.
