The Midlands early preview of spring weather has had everything but an afternoon thunderstorm. Those afternoon boomers might be coming today.
A cold front coming on the heels of this weekends warm weather could cause some mayhem. The National Storm Prediction Center has declared South Carolina at slight risk of severe thunderstorms from 2 p.m. through 2 a.m.
Expect thunderstorms in the Upstate about 2-4 p.m. and in the Midlands about 4-6 p.m., according to Mark Malsick, severe weather liaison for the State Climate Office. High winds and lightning are likely; tornadoes possible, but less likely in South Carolina than in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
The drive home from work today might be more troublesome than normal.
Before the front moves through, temperatures could hit the 80s. After the front, Tuesdays highs are expected in the 60s.
