A trawler built by the Sri Lanka Navy has been handed over to the Coast Guard Department
The handing over of the trawler to Rear Admiral Daya Dharmapiriya, Director General of the Coast Guard Department took place under the patronage of Navy Commander Vice-Admiral Somathilaka Dissanayake today. A notable feature was that the trawler had been built with the main contribution of Engineers of the Sri Lanka Navy and at a very low cost. The expenditure incurred was 20 million rupees. The 14 metre long trawler has a width of 3.5 metres. Its weight is nine tons. It has a 350 horse power engine and the speed will be 35 nautical miles per hour. The trawler is equipped with a modern radar network.
