The UNP has said the people were beginning to show interest in the forthcoming local government election in order to make it a platform for the masses to show their protest against the government.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told a press conference that the people were disgruntled over the heavy burden shouldered by them due to the rising prices.
He said that government officials like the Prime Minister were not speaking with their real senses when they say the commodity prices in Sri Lanka are low.
Attanayake also observed that the government needed to take measures to hold elections to the local government bodies that have been postponed as soon as possible, as the nominations would be canceled if the polls are delayed for a long time.
He added that elections to the remaining local government bodies including those that have been postponed should be held before Vesak in May.
