Fired up by Lasith Malinga’s second World Cup hat-trick, Sri Lanka trashed Kenya by nine wickets with 31.2 overs to spare at the R. Premadasa Stadium.
The two openers, T. M. Dilshan and Upul Tharanga put on 72 runs off 50 balls before Kumar Sangakkara and Tharanga sealed the issue within the next 66 balls.
Tharanga first played the anchor role when Dilshan was in the middle and later shifted to top gear and played a cameo innings to hit 12 boundaries in his 59-ball unbeaten knock.
Ratgama Express, Lasith Malinga made a dream comeback on the World Cup stage with a hat-trick to claim six for 38 as Kenya was were bowled out for 142.
Malinga, playing his first World Cup match on home soil, claimed his last four wickets in 10 balls to become the first player to record two hat-tricks in World Cup cricket.
