The Central Bank has plans to streamline state resources and make them profit earning institutions.
Addressing a function at the Colombo University Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabral said the main obstacle they confronted in development was the lack of proper awareness on the state resources. These were not properly exploited for proper use. He pointed out that there are instances during which institutions which have plenty of resources seeking funds from the Government. The need of the hour is to change this environment and make every effort for the use of these resources to achieve maximum results. The Government had said that not a single state enterprise would be sold. At the same time a special task was vested in these state establishments to provide proper benefits to the public. If this was achieved, it was the view of the Central Bank Chief that the country can soon experience development.
The function was organized in relation to the introduction of post-graduate courses. Vice Chancellor Prof. Kshanika Hirimburegama was amongst those present.
