The Elections Commissioner has announced that all arrangements are in place for postal voting of the Local Government polls.
Elections Chief Dayananda Dishanayake said the marking of postal ballots will take place on the 8th and 9th of this month. Certifying Officers have already been instructed to make the necessary provisions in this respect. All parties and groups contesting the elections in the Districts where the certifying offices are located can appoint a representative each to monitor the voting process. A representative of Election Monitors can also observe the voting. Elections to 56 local bodies have been postponed. Petitions in respect of 64 local bodies are being examined in the Appeals Court. Polling in two local bodies in the Mullaitivu District will also not take place as de-mining has not been completed. The Elections Chief said postal voting in these local bodies will not take place.
