The Sri Lanka Air Force commemorates its 60th Anniversary today. The inaugural ceremony will take place today.
The inauguration of the Golden Jubilee Anniversary celebrations took place under the patronage of President Rajapaksa this morning. The Lanka Royal Air Force was established on the 2nd of March in 1951. Thereafter it was established as the Sri Lanka Air Force. E. Rohan Amarasakara was appointed as the first Sri Lankan Air Commando in 1962.
At the inception, the Air Force possessed only two aircraft. However, it now possesses super fighter jets. The Air Force exploited all these hardware in the battle against terrorism. The services discharged by the Air Force on behalf of peace and freedom, shattering terrorist strongholds are praiseworthy. The Air Force is celebrating its Golden Jubilee two years after terrorism was totally eradicated and peace established. A special commemorative stamp was issued. It was of the five rupee denomination.
The Air Force Exhibition and Carnival opens for the public at 2.00 p.m. today and from tomorrow it will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 11.00 p.m. daily. There are many Exhibition stall showcasing the pristine glory of the Air Force. In addition the public will have an opportunity of viewing various stages of the humanitarian operation, aircraft and trucks of the Air Force. There will also be parachute displays. A commemorative stamp of the five rupee denomination is due to be issued today.
