All arrangements are in place for the launching of the Divi Neguma programme, aimed at establishing one million Domestic Economic Units to enhance the nutritional standards and the economy of the family.
The intention of the Government is to mould a prosperous village enriched with resources by the year 2016 through livelihood and social development based on the Mahinda Chinthana Extended Version. The Government has already mooted a streamlined programme in this respect. Nine Ministries affiliated to agriculture as well as the Fisheries, five Ministries affiliated to the industrial sector, as well as the Health, Environment and Livestock Development Ministries are collaborating in the programme launched under the guidance of the Senior Ministers. The Economic Development Ministry is spearheading the programme. A special discussion to brief the media on the Domestic Economic Units programme was held at the Presidential Secretariat with the participation of several Parliamentarians.
The Minister said this was their local economic and food framework. It can also be described as a programme closely associated with the livelihood. It will get underway on the 12th of this month throughout the country. As the first stage of implementing this programme, priority could be given to cultivating home gardens. Already training has been imparted to all officials. Plans have been crafted to provide the required technical know-how with the support of the Ministries concerned. The Minister added that the target of the programme was to steer the country towards “Asia’s Wonder.”
