Horry County officials seized a couple hundred cats Tuesday after a judge granted a temporary order to take the animals into emergency care because authorities were concerned for their welfare.
Elizabeth Owen, founder of the nonprofit Sacred Vision Animal Sanctuary on Forestbrook Road, appeared before Conway Magistrate Bradley Mayers for the hearing with her attorney, Greg McCollum. She did not speak during or after the hearing except to say her cats were care for properly.
This talk of denying medical care is not true, Owen said before McCollum interrupted her to dispute the merits of prosecutors trying to seize the cats.
Owen was charged with improper care and treatment of animals in September after Horry County police officers went to the no-kill rescue mission to follow up on PETA's complaints regarding the care of animals there.
