The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) is in the process of compiling an environmental data base for every district in the country.
The CEA has said that the compilation of data related to one district is completed and hoped to finish gathering data on at least 12 more.
The authority is hopeful of completing the data base for all the districts in the country by 2012.
According to the CEA, the environmental data base is expected to help policy makers and make environmentally informed decisions.
CEA Chairman Charitha Herath has told the media that once the survey is completed in one district the CEA would launch a CD with all the information gathered, which will be distributed to the necessary government institutions and the public can buy it as well.
