The construction work of the road that leads to the International Airport at Mattala has been launched. A progress review meeting on the airport construction is being held.
Chairman of the Airport and Civil Aviation Services Prasanna Wickremasuriya said that attention was being focused at this meeting on the construction of the road and the Airport. Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa who participated in the foundation laying ceremony of the access road also made an inspection tour. He said the first aircraft will land at the Airport in 2012. Minister Priyankara Jayaratne is among those participating on the occasion. The first phase of the construction work is now underway. Once completed, the project would provide 1500 direct and 50,000 indirect jobs.
