Chapin High students are pressing for an end to a stalemate that has delayed the start of renovations at their school for nearly a year.
Student leaders have created an Internet site to promote the $45 million package of improvements, have gathered signatures on petitions from nearly 800 of the schools 1,300 pupils and have sold 80 T-shirts with logos calling for work to begin.
Their mission is telling adults on the Lexington-Richland 5 board its time to compromise a message the students intend to deliver when the board meets March 14.
We see the need every day, student president Maggie Stroud said. All we really want is a building to learn comfortably without having to worry about where we are going to park or if we will have enough time to eat lunch.
The students Internet site includes pictures illustrating what they consider overcrowded and inadequate facilities.
