The Government will further continue to implement the programme launched for the expansion of coconut cultivation.
Minister Jagath Pushpakumara said that the cost of a 50 kilo bag of fertilizer was 3750 rupees. But the farmers had to pay only 1000 rupees. The balance cost of 2750 rupees was being borne by the Government. He revealed that the President has drawn his attention to providing fertilizer to any farmer at a cost of 1000 rupees within six months.
The Minister was speaking at the handing over of the coconut fertilizer subsidy to cultivators within the Dambadeniya electorate. The fertilizer subsidy is being provided to coconut cultivators countrywide, based on a concept of the President. Parliamentarian Shantha Bandara and officials of the Coconut Development Board were present.
