Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena has said the government was considering a change in school times to be implemented from next year.
Gunawardena has told a meeting in Kurunegala that the government is looking at changing the school times from the current 7.30 pm to 1.30 pm to 7.30 pm to 3.30 pm.
The government is to introduce the new school times in secondary schools in the country.
According to Gunawardena, the Ministry has considered the change in order to develop a cadre of teachers who loved and cared for the children.
He has said that while all public servants worked till 4.30 pm teachers currently worked only till 1.30 pm and had three months holidays. Therefore, the extended school hours are expected to make the teachers more dedicated to their work and the children.
