A private pharmacy in Maradana that sold expired paracetamol syrup has been sealed.
The pharmacy was raided by the National Cosmetic Devices and Drugs Regulatory Authority on a tip off. The Health Ministry said that a number of drugs in the pharmacy that did not conform to the standards were also seized. A resident from Colombo who bought a bottle of paracetamol syrup from the pharmacy for his child had found that it had expired in 2009. Thereafter he had bought another bottle which was also found to have been expired in 2009. Thereafter he had complained to the Drugs Authority. The Health Ministry said that they are taking measurers to take legal action against the pharmacy. The Ministry has requested the people to make complaints in case of such incidents.
