Administrators of the villages should be able to work with the Central Government on rural development. Minister Patalie Champika Ranawaka expressed this view at a meeting of the Colombo District UPFA activists held at the Temple Trees.
The Minister said every party and group is asking for power to build the cities and towns. He queried whether the task can be accomplished by these groups. Power can be supplied to the village only by the Electricity Board. Water can be supplied by the Water Supply Board. The roads are constructed under the Gama-neguma and Maga-neguma programmes. Garbage management is carried out either by the Provincial Council or the Environmental Ministry. He said that all these tasks are carried out with the strength of the Provincial Council and the Central Government. He stressed that the only way for the continuation of rural development is voting for the UPFA on the 17th.
