3512 houses will be constructed under the Janasevana project with Russian assistance.
The Ministry of Engineering Services and Common Amenities is to launch a low cost hosing project under the Janasevana project with Russian assistance. The Representative of the funding organization of the project M.S.K. Engineering Company in Russia met with President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees this morning and explained to him about the project. Minister Wimal Weerawansa said that the project consists of 2512 commercial houses and 1000 low cost houses. Priority will be given to the persons employed in foreign countries when selling the houses built for commercial purposes. Concessions will be provided for those who pay through non-resident accounts. It is also expected to save foreign exchange through this project. The capital spent on the project is much lower than that of the usual constructions and it is also timesaving. A new construction technology is also being transferred through the project. By providing 1000 houses free for 1000 families, 16 acres of valuable land will be released for commercial purposes.
