President again accuses Opposition of demoralizing Sri Lankan cricketers

President Rajapaksa has pointed out that the effort of the Opposition was to sabotage the victories in cricket as they did for the operations against terrorism.


The President said that at present there was a major cricket competition in progress with the entire world. SMS were being sent to demoralize the cricketers. He queried as to the meaning of this effort. When the World Cup was staged recently, It was publicized in the country that Murali would be taken into custody. The President said that Murali was disturbed over the incident and sent messages to them. They were demoralized over this affair.He noted that the Opposition was now active to demoralize strong cricketers such as Mahela Jayawardena. When the Sri Lanka cricketers were playing with foreign teams, the team was being demoralized.  The President recalled the initiatives adopted by the Opposition when the operations were in progress against the terrorists.  He said their only intention was to shatter the mentality of the troops. They did their optimum in this respect. The President pointed out that he was now surprised about the actions of the Opposition against the Sri Lanka players.

The President was addressing United People’s Freedom Alliance activists of the Gampaha District yesterday. The meeting was held at the Nawaloka Grounds in Welisara. Speaking further the President pointed out that the Government’s priority was to uplift the living standards of the down-trodden. Village roads and bridges are under construction. Health facilities are also being granted. Some are against these moves.  There are some who do not wish to see the ordinary masses leading better lives. They want to keep the down trodden in the same position every day. But, the President underlined that the Government is engaged in improving their living conditions.


Tharanga Rajapaksa contesting the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha from the United National Party joined the Freedom Alliance in the presence of the President.  Many party activists participated in this meeting organized in support of the victory of the Freedom Alliance candidates contesting the Local Government polls from the Gampaha District. Several Parliamentarians and political leaders were present.
